For more than 23 years, Ms. DePruitt has been a trusted name in Stafford County — serving clients, mentoring stylists, and building a reputation for excellence that no marketing campaign could manufacture. Utopia is the natural next chapter of that legacy.
As a U.S. military veteran, she brought the values of discipline, integrity, and mission-focus into every corner of this business. The result is a cosmetology school that doesn't just teach technique — it builds professionals who are ready for the real world from day one.

Ms. DePruitt's journey to founding Utopia Salon & Cosmetology Training Center is one defined by service, resilience, and an unshakeable belief in the power of transformation. Before she ever picked up a pair of shears professionally, she served in the United States military — an experience that instilled in her the core values of discipline, accountability, and leading by example that still define Utopia's culture today.
After her military service, Ms. DePruitt pursued her true passion: cosmetology. Over the next two-plus decades, she built a reputation in the Fredericksburg and Stafford County area as a skilled, client-centered stylist with a gift for color, texture, and natural hair. But her ambition never stopped at the salon chair. She saw a gap — aspiring beauty professionals in the region who needed more than just technical training. They needed mentorship, structure, and a school that treated them like the future professionals they were.
That vision became Utopia Salon & Cosmetology Training Center. Located at 20 Plantation Drive in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Utopia was built from the ground up to be a place where students receive Virginia DPOR-compliant, NIC-aligned cosmetology education in an environment that mirrors the real world of professional beauty. Every policy, every curriculum decision, and every classroom interaction reflects the standard Ms. DePruitt holds herself to — and the standard she expects her graduates to carry into their careers.
As a veteran-owned business, Utopia holds a special place for military-connected students. Ms. DePruitt understands firsthand the challenges veterans and their families face when transitioning to civilian careers, and she has made it a priority to pursue GI Bill® certification so that those who served can access the same world-class training she provides.
Her mission is simple and unwavering: give every student the tools, confidence, and professional foundation to build a career they are proud of — and give every client an experience that makes them feel seen, valued, and beautiful. That is the Utopia promise, and it starts with her.
