Got Questions?

Frequently Asked
Questions

How many hours is the Virginia cosmetology program?

Virginia DPOR requires a minimum of 1,000 clock hours for cosmetology licensure (effective December 1, 2025, per the Board for Barbers and Cosmetology). Our program meets this requirement with a comprehensive, hands-on curriculum.

What exam do I take to get my Virginia cosmetology license?

You'll take the NIC (National-Interstate Council) Theory and Practical exams, administered by Prov. Exam fees are $99 for the written (theory) exam and $95 for the practical exam, payable to Prov. We fully prepare you for both.

Do I need prior experience to enroll?

No prior experience is required. We welcome students at all levels — from complete beginners to those looking to formalize their skills and earn their Virginia license.

Is financial aid available?

FSA certification is currently in progress, which will unlock federal financial aid (FAFSA/Pell Grants). We also offer flexible payment plans. GI Bill® approval is also in progress — contact our admissions team for the latest status on both.

Do you offer part-time or evening classes?

Yes, we offer flexible scheduling options including part-time and evening programs to accommodate working students and parents.

Can I transfer my license from another state to Virginia?

Yes. Virginia DPOR allows licensure by endorsement for applicants who hold a current license from another state. You must have completed at least 80% of Virginia's required hours in your original state. Our admissions team can help guide you through the process.

What is the enrollment process?

Complete the online enrollment application and contact our admissions team to schedule a tour and consultation. We'll walk you through financial aid options and get you started. Virginia DPOR requires all students to enroll in a Board-approved school — we are fully licensed and approved.
